Hello everyone!
I hope 2012 is treating you well. Personally, I'm feeling a little gobsmacked by its quick arrival but nonetheless eager to see what will come. There was a real optimistic energy in the comments of my New Year's post. Many of you are looking to gain representation this year, or to see your book published, and I'm thrilled (continually) that we have this community that allows us to journey together. I'll be keeping my eye on each of you for those milestones.
What I'd really like to discuss, however, is Tip Tuesday. It's been some weeks since I received new tips (not unexpected given the holidays) and am curious as to whether you'd like to see it continue. I'm happy to feature tips as long as I receive them, but I fear the series might sputter out this year. If it does (and even if it doesn't), I might be interested in starting a new series of some sort. Any ideas or suggestions? I've pulled back on blogging quite a bit, but I definitely want to keep a presence here at least once or twice a week. So let me know your thoughts!

ReplyDeleteMy most treasured research tip is to use your library and your librarian and not to rely solely on Google searches! LOL!

Personally, I've met several cool bloggers through your Tip Tuesdays, but if none are coming in, there's probably not a whole lot you can do.

ReplyDeleteI've met a lot of awesome bloggers through Tip Tuesday as well, Matt. We'll just have to see what happens. I've got a couple ideas in the 'ol percolator if it has indeed met its end.

ReplyDeleteThe only tip I can think of for all authors and writers is research a lot - but that's a given. A new series - What about a "How to?" series. Many writers, authors, bloggers didn't start out in those careers so perhaps they can share an insight they've used from their "past lives" that has helped them out?

ReplyDeleteThe Agent Spotlights are my bread and butter. I absolutely love what you've put together here. I always turn to your blog when I have a new agent I'm not sure if I should query or not.
Like many other writers here, I'm pushing hard to get repped (or just get to a publisher) in 2012. It's high on my list, and I'm planning on breaking down as many doors as I have to to accomplish it!
Thanks for your blog! If Tip Tuesdays lives, I'll try to send in something. I just hope it's something you haven't heard yet!

I love Tip Tuesday! But I completely understand if you come up with something new. Query tips or marketing tips are always helpful.

ReplyDeleteAnother library tip is make use of the electronic data basis most of them give you access too. You can look things up from home, all you need is your library card.
Depending on what you are researching, Project Gutenburg is a great source if you need primary texts.

I hope you'll continue with Tip Tuesday even on an irregular basis. It is such a valuable resource. I've learned so much from reading about what works and what doesn't work from fellow writers. I will make it an additional New Year's Resolution to try to contribute a tip in 2012.

I've really liked tip tuesday. Hope people will continue to send tips in. even if it's an "irregular feature that would be great. I also like the agent profiles, and find them very useful. The interviews I don't spend much time with, but that's just me. Thanks for all your work in keeping this blog going. I've recommended it a lot.
ReplyDeleteI think Tip Tuesdays are good-but there are so many blogs out there now with writing tips, that another series might work just as well (not just writing tips, but maybe networking and marketing tips). But I love, love, love, Literary Rambles and will continue to follow it no matter what you decide. :)

ReplyDeletePerhaps you could have Tip Tuesdays only once a month instead of once every week?
And I'm with Melissa on this one. . . I adore the word gobsmacked!
And also another thing you could do once a month. . . perhaps you can have where writers submit in the comments 100 or 200 words of a certain scene in their manuscript. One month you can say, "Write two hundred words of an emotional scene." The next month you can say, "Write one hundred words of an action scene."
Writers can submit these in the comments and let other writers comment and critique, and at the end of the month you can pick the top three or so to critique and post, point out the well-written areas or flaws of the scene of the scene.
This may seem like a lot, but it'll only come once a month. Plus, it'll bring more activity to your blog.
I like your series' (serieses? Dude...) so whatever you do is fine. I wish I had tips worth mentioning. Is "write more" a tip? Probably not.

ReplyDeleteUm, no. Tip Tuesdays has new and familiar faces with helpful tips, and one never knows if it'll be about marketing or editing marks, software or silverware, and therein lies the charm.
