FAQ

What is Agent Spotlight?

Agent Spotlight is a weekly feature that goes up (most) every Thursday.  Casey profiles literary agents who accept one or more genres of children's literature (picture book through young adult), pulling all pertinent, available information on them into one link-heavy resource.  She encourages everyone to click through the links to verify the information she's used and to visit the blogs and websites the information came from.

You'll find some profiles are more thorough than others. This is due to the progression of the feature over the last two years and/or the information available on the agent.  As time allows, Casey is trying to bring them all up to her current standard.

You should also be aware that many of the profiles are becoming outdated. Casey has profiled over 100 literary agents and cannot keep up with the ever-changing web content of each one. Always check the date the profile was last updated (either at the bottom of the post or by date posted) and do an Internet search for new content, making sure to stop by the agent's website first for the most accurate, up-to-date info.

If you'd like to request an agent profile, please contact Casey.

You do such thorough research.  How can I research agents as well as you do?

Casey did a series of posts on researching agents.  Please read Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.  That's pretty much all she does.  Just add in the patience to dig deep into pages and pages of Google search and you can research as thoroughly.

Are all the agents you profile legitimate and trustworthy?

All the agents Casey profiles are legitimate and/or with a legitimate agency and do not charge fees. We cannot guarantee they are 100% trustworthy or have a great work ethic.  That's why it's so important to do as much research as you can and to ask around.  People are generally afraid to voice concerns and bad experiences where agents are concerned, but there really are some not-so-great agents out there. Put them through the wringer and choose wisely! If you find yourself questioning anything about an agent, consider other options first.

I'm an agent.  Why haven't you profiled me?

Casey has been profiling agents based on request.  Occasionally she'll throw one in herself but there's really no other rhyme or reason.  If you represent children's literature it's likely she'll get to you eventually.  If you'd like her to profile you sooner rather than later, please get in touch.

We reserve the right not to profile any agent deemed unfit for the series.

I'm an agent.  Why haven't you e-mailed me about my profile?

Casey started e-mailing the Spotlighted agents with an invitation to review their profiles in 2010. If you were profiled after February 2010, you should have received an e-mail.  If you were profiled prior to that, you'll hear from Casey as soon as she's had a chance to update your profile. She'd rather not bother you until she's updated and ensured everything is current.  If you'd like to see your profile updated immediately, please e-mail her.  Thanks!

What is Tip Tuesday?  Can I send in a tip?

Tip Tuesday is exactly what the title suggests.  Every Tuesday Casey posts a writing or research tip that is sent in by a fellow writer by e-mail.  If she's run out, she skips it for that week or posts one of her own.

If you'd like to send in a tip, please do so.  We're always running out!

Can I write a guest post for your blog?

It's possible.  We've been getting a lot of requests from freelance writers (who don't actually write kidlit) looking to add to their portfolio.  If this is you, we will probably say no.  If you write and/or read children's / teen literature, preferably if one of us is familiar with you, or are a professional in the field then it will probably be a yes, though business has required us to be more selective lately.

Can you interview me?

If you're a published or debut author of children's or teen literature, please get in touch with Natalie. It will depend on our current schedule and business. If you're an agent, editor, or other professional in the children's book industry, yes, we'd love to hear from you. Feel free to get in touch with either Casey or Natalie.

Casey's bio says she's interning for an agent.  Who is she interning for?  What does she do?

Yes, Casey interns remotely for a literary agent and has been asked to keep their identity in confidence. Mostly she reads submissions. There isn't much more she can say, but she's really enjoying the experience.
