Open Thread

Well now...

There are a few things I could blog about, some awards I need to address, and other such stuff and things, but I'm feeling lazy and unmotivated today (though, I really should be getting ready for my mom's visit this Thurs). Despite my mood, I feel an extreme need to post something. It's been a few days.

So, OPEN THREAD today. Start up a topic, ask a question, tell me something random, good news? Whatever! Talk to me.

If you're a new follower or subscriber, why don't you introduce yourself and say hi? (BTW, thanks for following everyone—you're all awesome.)

  1. Debate: Macaroni and Cheese with Hot Dogs, or Top Ramen, for favorite really unhealthy home-cooked children's meal?

  2. Both? LOL.

My daughter probably favors Mac-N-Cheese (sans hot dogs) though.

She calls it something like, "mackycheez."

  3. Okay, here's a bit of good news for you. I write the News Roundup Column for the SCBWI-IL newsletter (The Prairie Wind), and the next issue is coming out next month. I put a link to your blog in my column, because your Agent Spotlights are amazing! So, you should expect more traffic to your blog real soon. :)

  4. Favorite really unhealthy home-cooked children's meal: Tater-tots with cheese rolled up in a flour tortilla. Not one healthy thing about that!

  5. Wow, Shelley, I think that one is up there on the list for sure! It is absolutely absent of any nutritional value whatsoever!

  6. Wow Tabitha! That is lovely news. *blushes* Thank you so much! Would you be willing to share the newsletter with me when it comes out?

  7. Shelley, my question is, despite being unhealthy, are they good? Maybe I should re-ask that... do kids think they'll good?

    Lol!

  8. Okay, the home "cooked" phraseology is confusing me. LOL
Shelley, anything in a flour tortilla is good! Never tried Tater-tots though.
Lil' Smokies wrapped in some Pillsbury crescent roll dough and baked...kids love that.

  9. I'm a newbie so just wanted to say hello. My name is Anna and I write MG and YA fantasy. I just signed with an agent in June and am hoping for some good news soon!

On the subject of cheesy goodness. A favorite invention of mine is Green Giant frozen broccoli in cheese sauce, wrapped in Pillsbury crescent roll dough (I kind of braid the dough over the broccoli so it's almost like a calzone). Bake to delicious perfection. Apparently all it's missing are tater tots...

  10. Deb, if it requires heating it's home cooked in my motherly opinion. LMAO.

Hi Anna! So glad you're introducing yourself. Congrats on signing with an agent this past June. An exciting step in your career. I'll be looking forward to that good news you're hoping for!

All these cheesy, doughy recipes are making me hungry for something, well, unhealthy.

    : )

  11. I'd definitely have to go with the mac-n-cheese/hot dogs combo.

  12. Hey Rebecca!

I think MnC is the winner, Tyler!

And hey, I actually managed to get some cleaning done.

  14. Alright! "Mackycheez" is my favorite, too! Although I did eat my FAIR share of Top Ramen growing up!

Glad to hear you ended up being productive!

  15. Thanks Tabitha. I'll be looking forward to it!

    Yay for mackycheese, Tyler.

I somehow managed to get quite a bit done. A lot more to do today in prep for my mom's arrival, but far less than if I'd done nothing yesterday. Ha!

  16. Now who says mac and cheese has to be unhealthy? :) In our version there's milk, (and Velveeta) - so lots of calcium - and the kids don't know I switched to white wheat noodles. (So, maybe it's not low fat.)

I just found your blog and I love your agent info. I hope to need it soon!

  17. Hi Erin! So glad you found my blog. What genre do you write?

As for mac-n-cheese, it certainly doesn't have to be unhealthy. Your version sounds great! Hm. I should probably stop using the boxed stuff and go the same route!
