It's kind of funny. Yesterday felt like the longest day ever while it was happening, and now I'm wondering where it went! Here's my word count update...
Current word count: 15,270.
Goal last week: 15,000.
Accomplished: 7,987.
Words 'til finish: 34,730/2,894 words a day until Nov 30th.
Goal this week: 20k? Gulp.
Comments: I think I did pretty good. I wrote several, though not all, days this week and feel like I'm finally letting go. I've settled into the story and I'm finally loving the great reveal that happens with each paragraph, sentence, word. I think I need to write about 20k this week if I want to get back on track, and you know, I'm kind of up for the challenge. Let's see what I can do! Anyone else want to buckle down and try to catch up this week?And on that note, how are you doing? What are your word counts up to? How is the week going? Do share!
I'm on track, but I get nervous anyway just thinking about keeping up this pace. It's daunting. I'm over 29K currently, so if don't slip I'll make it.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to write a post when I finish about what it taught me. But one thing I know is working for me is to just write the scenes showing the character development and not to worry about the details. I can do research and insert that later, I realized. I think this will be important to me outside of NaNo. I tend to think I have to know all the details as I go, which slows me down or even stops me completely. So what is happening (I hope) is the emotional story is flowing and I will go back in later to flesh-out settings and check information accuracy.
I like your attitude, Casey. Loving the story is all that really matters. Go for it!

I'm on target, but my goal for this week is to try and get a couple of days ahead. This way I won't have to worry and stress that I've completely given up Thanksgiving tradition for my writing. :)
I am between 18 and 19K...pretty close to you. I'll buckle down if you do!

ReplyDelete..me I gave up straight out of the gate, realizing it was all way over my status. I froze with every attempt.
I will start again, on my own slower time line, with a better game plan.

ReplyDeleteMy brain seems to have taken working on NaNo as permission to have epiphanies in other projects, as well as the epiphany that I have a LOT of research to do on the NaNo story before I can write a decent draft of it.
It's not a matter of being able to insert detail and setting later. Whatever I find about the setting and such will shape the story, like it did that slaughtering of "Romeo and Juliet" that I wrote. Most of the story came from what I found out about 1200s Italy.
So what I've learned is: do my foundational research first, chica. Details like language translations and how to bake bread with a wood-burning stove can be easily worked in later. Things like on what grounds women could inherit property of their own—if they could inherit property, not so much, because much of the story assumes that women could and did.
*sigh*
If I hadn't told a friend about NaNoWriMo and gotten her involved, I might've given up already. As things stand, if she wins and I don't, I'll have too many people nagging me about it.
Goal for tonight:
1. Fold laundry and put it away.
2. Clean workspace.
3. Write 3k words in the NaNo project, not in the novel idea that's been stuck for years that is finally starting to piece together, nor in the novelette I want to complete by Christmas, nor in the novel I want to finish revising by the end of the year.
I'm pretty much on track, but terrified of hitting a wall. What is it about nano that makes me batty? :)

Yeah! You go girl! I hit it hard today trying to keep up with my 1,000 words a day in November. So I'm at 18,000. Only 1,000 words behind now!
ReplyDeleteLast week was full of roadblocks, so I'm playing catch-up this week. As of last night, I'm up to 24825 for the month, when I should be at 30K. Time to buckle down, keep my nose to the grindstone, etc.

I'm at 17190 but I never planned to go all the way to 50k. I just want to finish this book. It's a MG so I'm aiming for about 30k. We'll see...
ReplyDeleteI'm at 33,000. I wanted to be at 50,000 by this weekend, since I want to finish this novel in the month, and I think it'll take some extra words. But, I'm not sure. This week I've really slacked off, and I think it's because I realize that the last couple of days I flew through some passages that I want to add some finesse and detail to. We'll see what prevails--my urge to do rolling revisions, or my urge to get to the end.

I'm at 28,641 and I'm hoping to pick up the slack today. I tried to do it last night but couldn't keep my eyes open. The 50,000 is definetly in my grasp if I can keep pace to the end. I'm super excited because this will be the first year out of the last three that I actually have completion in my grasp, so I'm determined to do it.
