Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Hello! How are things? You're looking chipper today. I've had a pretty great couple of weeks myself. The weather has been lovely, I started my last full term of school, and one of my uber-amazing critique partners debuted...

Heck yes, I'm excited!

I'm trusting you've read ACROSS THE UNIVERSE by now, but if you haven't, well, consider this my belated OMGYOUHAVETOREADTHISBOOKWHATAREYOUWAITINGFOR? Clearly, I'm biased, but I've also read hundreds of YA novels and know a good one when I experience it. PLUS, I wasn't one of her CPs when she wrote this. And Guys, if you're looking at the pink and purple-y romantic cover and the tagline, thinking, "yeah, this isn't for me" you might be surprised. The romance is surprisingly subtle. The story has a lot more to do with oppression, mystery, and murder. Really. But the sci-fi aspect isn't overwhelming, either. Trust me, I don't really do sci-fi and I love this book.

Here's the blurbage:

A love out of time. A spaceship built of secrets and murder.

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

And here's Beth looking gorgeous and glowy, talking about AtU!

In blog news, I ran out of Agent Spotlight requests last week so I'm going to go ahead with my plan to update old spotlights. I've given it some thought and I don't want to re-post, mostly because I don't want to create multiple links for each profile, but I WILL post and let you know which I've updated and keep you aprised of my progress.

So, have you read ACROSS THE UNIVERSE yet? What did you think?

I haven't read Across the Universe but can't wait. It should arrive in the mail soon. I told my 13 year old daughter about it and she already said she gets to read it first. I'm hoping she'll tell her friends how much she loves it. I'm so excited for Beth.

I have read it and I thought it was a pretty decent read. :)

Sounds like there's going to be a package scuffle at your house, Natalie!

Glad you enjoyed it, Ladystorm!

Do you know I that I just got that the cover had 2 people about to kiss? My eyes always focused on the sparkly connected part and I wondered, what the heck is that! LOL, How embarrassing! It reminds me those brain teaser illusion pics.

Anyway, this one is on my TBR list. How cool that you and Beth are CPs!

Read this book in two days! And the video of Beth talking about the book was fascinating - I love to hear authors talk about the world/people they've created.

And I know of THE BEST AGENT IN THE WORLD you could feature ; ) Sarah LaPolla from Curtis Brown Ltd. I am not at all biased or anything. I swear.

Unknown said...

It's def on my 'must read' list!

I haven't read Across the Universe yet but it sounds pretty good. I'll add it to my TBR!

And the diagram of Godspeed in the video is really cool. :)

Absasuperfabulous!!! Finished it last week and I can't wait for the next one!!!

Casey McCormick said...

Really, Suzie? A friend of mine couldn't make it out either. I never had a problem with this one but there's a booking coming out this year that I can NEVER see right!

YAY, Corey! Thanks for sharing the link.

Glad you're enjoying it, Cheree!

Wasn't that the greatest video, K.M.? I really enjoyed it! I'll put Sarah on my list for when I start up again!

Yes do, E.J.!

The diagram is very cool! I think I'm going to have to buy the HC just to play with the reversible cover!

MARIA! "Absasuperfabulous" will be my new favorite word. Glad you loved it!

Such a great book! Worth every bit of its NYT Bestseller STATUS!!!! The video was pretty dang awesome, too. I saw it on another blog.

But you're looking mighty gorgeous. Loving the hair. It looks a little different. Frames your face nicely. Beautiful!

First off, great picture of you! Second....it NEVER entered my head to take a pic of me and my Kindle. DUH! Will do that later today.

I want the hard cover copy as well (and to take my pic with) but it is taking for forever for my Indigo to get it.

Anyway. YAY for Beth and debuting on the NYT!!

Ishta Mercurio said...

Okay, I loved that video. Beth seems like such a sweet, intelligent person.

And I LOVE that diagram! (I'm a sucker for maps and diagrams and stuff. I was a Trekker. Don't judge.)

Thanks for posting this!

OMGosh, I finished this a couple of nights ago and loved it! It was awesome.

When I finished I said, "no this can't be the end!"

I definitely want to read more of her work and I sure hope somehow, there's a sequel. Is there?

Carolyn said...

I have not, but I will now! If Casey says it's good, I can take that to the bank. :)

I justed added it to my books to read. How exciting!

Across the Universe was the first book I read for the Story Siren's 2011 debut author challenge. I'd been hearing about it for months, so I was pretty excited to get my hands on it.

Lived up to the hype, I posted my "study" here:
